About this scholarship

What is PostgradAustralia?

PostgradAustralia helps prospective postgraduate university students find courses and scholarships through our leading digital products and print publications.

Our website helps students explore, compare, shortlist and apply for their perfect university course, all in one place.

What is this scholarship for?

At PostgradAustralia, we’re passionate about the power of learning. We believe postgraduate education can give people the means to achieve great things. That’s why we’re proud to support students with a passion for learning through the PostgradAustralia Scholarship.

The successful applicant will be paid a grant of $2,750 in April 2019

We’re not looking for a stratospheric GPA. We’re not even asking for a transcript. What we want to see is your passion for knowledge in a field you love.

Am I eligible?

Everyone studying or planning to study a postgraduate course in Australia is eligible, regardless of your study field, study mode, residency status, or football team.

Eligible programs include:

  • Graduate certificates
  • Graduate diplomas
  • Master’s degrees
  • PhDs

The winning applicant will have their enrolment in a current postgraduate program verified with their institution.

When can I apply?

Applications have now closed! Stay close to our Facebook page for information on the 2020 scholarship. We hope to announce this year's winner on April 5.

How do I apply?

Click on this link or the ‘apply now’ button. You’ll be taken to an application page that asks for the following information:

  1. Write 300 - 500 words describing who you are and why you’re passionate about your discipline. Some questions you could answer in this section include:
    • Who are you? Why are you passionate about your field of study?
    • Describe how your course is helping you realise your ambitions:
      • If you haven’t started postgraduate study yet, describe your undergraduate degree. What did you learn? Did your expectations meet reality?
      • If you’ve already begun postgraduate study, tell us what you think about your degree so far. What are you learning? Is it what you expected? If not, why?
    • What do you hope to do with your postgraduate qualification?
  2. Attach a clear picture of yourself that we can publish next to your story.
  3. Finally, we would like you to make a post on your wall with the hashtag #pgascholarship and tagging @postgradaustralia, making sure to follow our Facebook page. This could be a picture, haiku, short video (2 minutes maximum), or something completely different like a flash mob, skywriting, programming an intriguing application or interpretive dance. Whatever you can come up with! After that, take a screenshot of the post.
  4. Click the ‘submit application’ button and you’re done!

What will we do with your entries?

If your application is particularly moving, we may choose to publish all or part of it on either PostgradAustralia.com.au or TheUniGuide.com.au. Your consent to do so is part of the scholarship application terms. Only one person will earn the scholarship, but we’re certain many of you will have some fantastic stories to tell.

What are we looking for in a successful applicant?

Successful applicants will have the following:

1. A passionate and well articulated message

Applicants who can demonstrate their love for what they do will be in our good books. Don’t use sentences like, “I find this really interesting and inspiring.” Instead, get straight to what makes you tick by telling us a story about you. How do you want to influence the world with your work?

In both the written and social media component, there should be little ambiguity about what you’re telling us. We can’t wait to see your creativity in action, but make sure we can understand your message. If you can say something in fewer words or more precise language, do it.

2. Social media engagement

If you’ve got the chops to make your social media post stand out in the crowd, we’ll respect that. Applicants who’ve got high engagement on their posts will show the selection committee they have the ability to inspire others. If you can do that, you could well inspire us too.
