Pros & Cons

  • Market leader means we work on the largest, most advanced infrastructure projects.
  • The environment, the resources and tools the company has available to them.
  • The people, teams and managers alike.
  • Focus on sustainability, opportunities to learn, networking
  • Work with very skilled engineers
  • In the Buildings BU we do not have much influence on the overall solution, we are more "service providers" than "solution providers".
  • Can be quite slow to react to things. To make change in certain parts of the organisation is very difficult even though the work methods are completely inefficient.
  • People outside of our business sometimes do not understand what we do because we have such a large offer portfolio. We are now building on our messaging to make our customers more aware that the sole reason we exist is for them. This takes time and clear messaging.
  • Like any big company, red tape. Bigger company - slower change.

Schneider's set up in the office is open plan, with only a handful of offices. There are many teams that are spread out across the country and world to create a bigger picture result. We use many digital tools to share information, including our own "social media" platform. Outside of the work environment, there are many sporting activities that go on at lunch in the parks surrounding the office. We also have frequent drinks nights to let everyone relax and enjoy themselves.

Diversity
There has been a lot of talks recently about identifying ways to improve our diversity within the company from a national level. I believe that having more nationally advertised roles will improve diversity, as will determining what positive diversity looks like.

My managers all make an effort to be accessible for project and career advice at all times, which I thoroughly appreciate. They are also good at giving recognition for good work and give good feedback on how I am tracking.

Office Work Environment
Our office is located on the outskirts of the city in a low socio-economic area. This is good for parking, however, there are not very many good places to go for lunch or after work. The office is new and modern, with some plants and greenery. The dress code is very casual. We have a call centre and lots of staff that do not meet with clients, so t-shirts and jeans are not uncommon. We also have client-facing staff, who wear anything between smart-casual and formal clothing.

Recruitment
The process is quite standard depending on the role. For graduate programs, you can expect interviews, online assessments, and assessment centres. Behavioural and general questions on my experience, me as a person, and what I want to do in the future Be yourself, not what you think the company wants you to be. Everyone has different needs, and if the role does not match your needs, then you will not be happy and enjoy yourself. In other words, play to your strengths!

As I have only passed through two graduate assessments and haven't had to go through a real pay review process, I cannot say. Rewards system lets you buy items with rewards. Special deals for hotels, flights, health insurance, RM Williams, occasionally cheaper products from work.

There are lots of areas which we identify as areas for savings, and push the managers in those areas to drive efficiencies.
